Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

Why is HandUp Global Goods a “faith-based” organization?

We believe Jesus is the author of all good things. Our faith in him is the same faith that motivates us to love the poor and marginalized as Jesus loved them.

We believe Jesus is…

-Image of the invisible God

-He in whom all things were created

-He that holds all things together

-Head of the church

-Reconciler of humanity and God

Colossians 1:15-20 - He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Why do you work with young men instead of young women?

Most social enterprises like us specifically work with women and while we recognize that this is vital, we are less likely to achieve lasting change if we fail to engage the men. We believe the brokenness of poverty robs young men of the ability to become leaders, pastors, businessmen, husbands and fathers. By providing jobs, discipleship and education, we believe they will positively impact the women and children in their spheres of influence.

Why is Job Creation such a vital component of your holistic approach?

We like to think of ourselves as having the heart of a ministry and the hands of a business. We understand that commerce is a powerful catalyst for positive social change. In other words, these young men are taught to work, provide for themselves and in turn, provide for their people. Good, honest work is a blessing from God and we are delighted to have work available for these young men.

Is HandUp Global Goods associated with one particular religious institution?

We seek partnerships with like-minded organizations who are passionate about pursuing solutions to poverty alleviation. We are a Christian enterprise, but we are not linked to one religious institution. Want to learn more about our beliefs and values? Ask us! We love to share.

What Challenges are Unique to HandUp?

Ministry and product development converge daily in the HandUp workplace. Therefore, there is a daily challenge of upholding production standards while lovingly guiding the young men in our program. We call it demanding perfection in a constant state of grace. It isn’t easy, but we are honored and humbled to get to be part of this holistic approach.

What bible verses resonate with the HandUp team?

He has told you, o man, what is good:

And, what does he require of you?

But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

Hope deferred makes the heart grow sick,

but a longing fulfilled is the tree of life.

Proverbs 13:12

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us;

And, establish the work of our hands;

Yes, establish the work of our hands.

take up the cause of the fatherless,

plead the case of the widow.
